We have extensive experience designing cost-effective wind turbine foundations for the full spectrum of geotechnical conditions: from soft/buoyant conditions to competent bedrock. For the popular gravity base foundation, we have pioneered the industry shift from the octagonal shape with orthogonal top and bottom reinforcement to the more efficient circular shape with radial top and bottom reinforcement. We can advise our client relative to the most appropriate ground modification techniques to improve subgrade support for marginal sites.

As can be noted, while a triangular pressure distribution might me appropriate for soft subgrades, it deviates significantly from that assumption for hard subgrades. Contact pressure is a direct input to the flexural design of the concrete foundation and such input is best obtained through finite element analysis with correct loads and boundary conditions. Our detailed design always employs such sophisticated tools.
